Some Thoughts on Kirtan

Kirtan is the collective singing of mantras, the names of the divine. These names represent different qualities and facets of the Self.

The Self is the only reality that transcends duality; it is neither nothing nor everything. Everything originates from the Self and ultimately dissolves back into it.

When we sing these sacred mantras, we invoke our inner teacher and inner light in a divine form, to guide us on our journey to realization.

The realization that we already are what we were seeking: peace, harmony, happiness, love, bliss…

Kirtan, which harmonizes the breath and aligns us with the heart, is a playful expression of the ancient practice of Bhakti yoga, the path of surrender.

By simply singing the divine names, we invite the joyful presence of the divine within us.

We sing from the heart, connecting with the heart.
